Wired Rental

Welcome to 2018 everyone, an age in which you should almost certainly have a good electronic capability in your vacation rental if you want happy guests.* This can be one of the more expensive factors in a vacation rental, but will pay off in the long term as a feature that most guests are looking for in a vacations rental. if you buy the right products they should be long lasting and high quality as well as easy to use. They should also be something you are comfortable using and not require a separate tech support team.

Living Room

The living room in our suites is where most of the electronics live.

In this photo we have:

  • Smart TV: We like this Samsung tv because it has all the major streaming capabilities built in so you don’t need another device for Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc.
  • HDMI Cable: This is another essential in case guests bring gaming systems or want to hook up their laptops to the tv.
  • Wifi: We love google wifi ! It looks and acts like one network to guests but in reality has mesh networking where there are multiple wifi points and the guest devices switch to the strongest signal they are near at any given point.
  • Outlets: We use these to run wires in the wall so it doesn’t look messy hooking up TVs to cable boxes. We run power and HDMI through them
  • Cable Box: Unfortunately we cannot accurately recommend a cable box on this site, as the kind and quality varies greatly all over the world. However we would recommend that you get a cable box that gets, at the very least, news and sports.

Bedroom

  • Charger clocks: One of my personal biggest pet peeves is being unable to easily plug my phone in at night. Thankfully, if your bedrooms only have outlets in highly inconvenient places, and you don’t want an ugly extension cord, there are these charger clocks, complete with usb and outlet options, so your guests can charge all their devices.

Smart Things

The best part about having a strong, secure, wifi like Google Wifi is being able to connect them to smart things! This can help you control your entire rental from afar without worrying too much.

  • Ecobee: This smart thermostat keeps your rental at a comfortable, adjustable temperature, while also alerting you with an app should a guest turn the heat up to 100 or turn off the heating/cooling when a unit is empty to save energy.
  • Locks: These locks allow us to keep track of who enters any of our units from one easy website.
*There is a subset of vacation rentals that work on the assumption of using no tv, wifi, laptops, or screens. These often function best in areas where it’s really hard to get wifi and tv in the first place. This is a specific type of vacation experience that we have no authority on, so more power to those who run this type of rental, but this article is not for you.
